FACE - THE WORLD (2005) The follow up to Tony's 2002 self-titled debut (FACE)
has taken much longer than he expected. Not that he's complaining - as
they say in Virginia "you gotta bail hey when the sun shines." He's been
all over the world touring with the rock band TRAIN, and the
amazing thing is that he still found time to chip away at this new album
every chance he got. Spending more and more time in Nashville these days,
Tony decided to start by tracking drums in the studios there. Drummer and
great friend Kevin Murphy (TONIC/EARTH TO ANDY) made
the trip and put his unmistakable signature on the project. From there it
came home to Virginia and Tony's high-tech home studio. Outside of a few
vocals and guitars done on the road or in Nashville, it was mainly
recorded at home. Technology has gotten so advanced in recording that he
would make the most of his time by tracking several takes of guitars and
vocals with multiple options, and then edit and choose the best takes
while out on the road. Even editing in a plane or on the tour bus to help
pass the time and push the project forward. Tony is credited for many
other instruments on the cd as well: bass guitar, harmonica, accordion,
mandolin, percussion, keyboards and programming. Finishing touches were
added by friend, keyboardist and musical genius Brandon Bush
in Atlanta, GA. Brandon's cd credits include TRAIN, JOHN MAYER
and SUGARLAND - just to name a few... Having worked with string
players before with EARTH TO ANDY, Tony decided to add Cello to
several tracks (courtesy of Mike Meadows - SMALL TOWN
WORKERS) and even a full blown string arrangement for "Count On Me."
The final addition was a horn arrangement on "Pop Song 2k?" - what
it 2k? you ask? - basically 200? - Tony never new when he would get around
to finishing it so left the last digit of the year off. This is the first
cd that he has ever worked on where he wrote ALL the material on the
record. "I had so many snippets of ideas that had accumulated over the
years that I knew I could make it happen, the hard part was picking which
song ideas to finish up!" |
