About FACE cd's

FACE - THE WORLD (2005)

The follow up to Tony's 2002 self-titled debut (FACE) has taken much longer than he expected. Not that he's complaining - as they say in Virginia "you gotta bail hey when the sun shines." He's been all over the world touring with the rock band TRAIN, and the amazing thing is that he still found time to chip away at this new album every chance he got. Spending more and more time in Nashville these days, Tony decided to start by tracking drums in the studios there. Drummer and great friend Kevin Murphy (TONIC/EARTH TO ANDY) made the trip and put his unmistakable signature on the project. From there it came home to Virginia and Tony's high-tech home studio. Outside of a few vocals and guitars done on the road or in Nashville, it was mainly recorded at home. Technology has gotten so advanced in recording that he would make the most of his time by tracking several takes of guitars and vocals with multiple options, and then edit and choose the best takes while out on the road. Even editing in a plane or on the tour bus to help pass the time and push the project forward. Tony is credited for many other instruments on the cd as well: bass guitar, harmonica, accordion, mandolin, percussion, keyboards and programming. Finishing touches were added by friend, keyboardist and musical genius Brandon Bush in Atlanta, GA. Brandon's cd credits include TRAIN, JOHN MAYER and SUGARLAND - just to name a few... Having worked with string players before with EARTH TO ANDY, Tony decided to add Cello to several tracks (courtesy of Mike Meadows - SMALL TOWN WORKERS) and even a full blown string arrangement for "Count On Me." The final addition was a horn arrangement on "Pop Song 2k?" - what it 2k? you ask? - basically 200? - Tony never new when he would get around to finishing it so left the last digit of the year off. This is the first cd that he has ever worked on where he wrote ALL the material on the record. "I had so many snippets of ideas that had accumulated over the years that I knew I could make it happen, the hard part was picking which song ideas to finish up!"
Just when he thought he was done, he wrote an acoustic piece on the road that was added as Track 13. "Never Been Here" - "that song just came out of me - quickly. I think when the pressures off you're given "gifts" like that. "Candle To You" was that way from my first cd. I just felt that "Never Been Here" was the perfect way to end the record, and I kept it simple, Acoustics, Vocal, Accordion, Harmonica and was luck enough to get Sasha Ostrovsky of Bering Strait to play Steel Guitar on it - and he nailed it! I think the sentiment of the lyric sums up the whole cd." It's July of 2005, and the wait is over. You can hear some samples on the MUSIC page. Enjoy.

FACE - Self-Titled (2002)

The 2002 self-titled debut was also a long time in the making. It was actually a work in progress for 6 years. When Tony wasn't producing or touring and recording with EARTH TO ANDY he would play with these recordings. Some songs were actually EARTH TO ANDY demos first - like "Hear The Violins" written by Andy Waldeck and Tony. Drummer Kevin Murphy played on 5 tracks, Chris Reardon played bass and sang backup vocals on another. Tony did all the lead vocals, guitars and several other instruments. "The initial reaction to the cd was very flattering...I could have spent another two years fine-tuning and re-cutting things, but the timing and the music felt right - it was time to put it out or put it away." A few of the many highlights on this record include the ballad "Candle To You" and the super riff-rock guitar of "She..." You can hear some samples on the MUSIC page and this cd is still available as well.
